What Now?

So, I just graduated from college two weeks ago. Upon arriving home I wasted no time in spending an afternoon solely dedicated to updating and beefing up my resume. I can't tell you how many jobs via mediabistro and Yahoo! Hotjobs I've applied to in order to jump start my career. I've been pretty optimistic so far (it's my nature), especially because my search has just begun, but a sobering truth in the form of a short and simple email dawned on me this afternoon.

In response to an inquiry I'd sent the owner of a public relations firm here in Delaware, she said that my resume was good, but that they weren't hiring. The statement was simple enough but the meaning ran much deeper. On the same note, my boss at my beloved magazine, AMBERmag.com has stated several times that she would love to hire me full-time, but the mag's financial status due to the economic slump will not permit her to do so at this time. It's apparent that I have the skills and enough experience to work at just about any magazine or PR firm of my choice, even if it's just at entry level (and that's totally fine with me!), but the fact of the matter is that they are not financially in the position to hire me!

This is a reality that professionals have encountered long before I did. I know I'm late. I don't know what they've done in an attempt to quickly get back in the saddle (I have some research to do), but for now I'll keep marketing myself the best I can, networking, praying, and playing the waiting game until my season comes. And I know it will:)

Great Hair Find: Curly Whip

For all of my natural girls, I've found the secret to frizz-free summer curls. It's called "Curly Whip" ($20 for an 8 oz bottle) by Hair Rules. It is amazing! I couldn't wait to try it out when it finally arrived in the mail last week and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised! You use it in the shower then let your hair air dry. The end result is full, soft and tame curls without the crunch. It's definitely worth a try;)

Happy Birthday to Me!

Miss Major Substance's one year birthday was actually May 14th but I've been a little tied up with moving back home after graduation last weekend. To keep it short and sweet, I'd like to thank Mr. ______ for inadvertently being my inspiration for the blog, "Ray"(you helped me write some of my best posts) for the hard, yet profitable life lessons, and all of my supporters who read and encourage me! I only aim to get better this year and work overtime to make this blog worth reading.

Please keep reading, commenting and suggesting topics you'd like me to discuss:)

Chocolate Fix of the Week: Kevin Phillips

Girls, I've been going through withdrawal. LOL. So I had to turn the heat up this time around in this installment of Chocolate Fix. I've had a little thing for Kevin Phillips since I witnessed his glory and majesty in Pride. Lord have mercy. Don't front, you were thinking the same thing. And wasn't he just adorable in Notorious? Not too long ago I was pleasantly surprised to see Kev acting as Ciara's leading man in her "Never Ever" video, which I love by the way. If you don't think he's fine, get your eyes checked;)

Good vs. Bad Hair

I watched this clip of one of Tyra's episodes from last week and I think it's an outrage that some black women still think this way in 2009. Seriously?!

What do you think?
