I am on on the same page with the "Playing Dress-Up" post on Feliz is Her Name. I absolutely love going to weddings and, of course shopping for the perfect dress. I've only been to about three weddings within the last two years, but I always take the opportunity to look my best. I mean, a wedding is a special occasion, right? For the second to last wedding I attended back in September of last year, (the last one was in Jamaica where I was a bridesmaid, so I didn't have a choice in attire), I searched TIRELESSLY for a great dress. It was quite the battle because everyone knows that the selection at the mall isn't what it used to be. . . I even considered renting from Rent The Runway, but by that time, I wasn't sure if I'd received it in time for the wedding, and since I was on the program and was guaranteed to be seen, I couldn't take any chances. Anyway, I found a super-femme one-shouldered dress in a beautiful purple shade from Macy's I think it was, then decided that this dress was "the one" (Plus, I was tired of shopping). It was perfect: formal, sophisticated, and appropriate for a non-conservative church (chapel) wedding.
As you can see, my friends and sister are also appropriately dressed for the occasion, but I couldn't say the same for everyone else. I don't claim to be any kind of fashionista or expert, but I do know that you don't show up to a wedding wearing something that looks like you chose it at random from your "Hmmm, this'll have to do" or suuuper casual sundress pile, and that's exactly what some people looked like. It wasn't just this particular wedding, but it seemed to be a trend at several weddings I've attended over the past few years. I don't know. Maybe I'm taking it too seriously, but I just thought that you're supposed to look your best at weddings. But, if a super casual sundress is the best that someone can do, who am I to say any different?
